You probably already know that a certain food isn’t good for you, and you avoid it. But, there is some food that you may think is good. One of them is sugar-packed cereals. They contain too little fiber and they aren’t filling enough. It is better to spend that money on a yummy desert than on those cereals. If you really like sugar-packed cereals, mix them in the bowl with cereals that are low in sugar. It isn’t the perfect solution, but it will reduce the amount of sugar you are eating.
If you like sausages, bacon and hot dogs, bad news for you. According to Bonnie Taub-Dix, author of Read It Before You Eat It, this type of processed meat may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer. You should avoid this type of food as much as you can. Leave it for some journeys or some rare occasions. Also, be careful with sodium content in processed meat. The recommended daily intake, according to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, is 2.300 mg per day. If you are an African-American, or you have a chronic kidney disease, diabetes, high blood pressure or you are age 51 or older, the recommended daily intake is 1.500 mg.
Sugary coffee may look nice, but it isn’t good for you. A cup of this drink may contain 400 calories and, believe or not, 15 teaspoons of sugar. Sugar from fruits is good for you but added sugars are bad for your health. The recommended daily intake of added sugar for women is max 6 spoons of 100 calories and max of 9 teaspoons of 150 calories for men.
